SHIFT by LAYER

SHIFT的原材料来自时装行业和纺织行业的循环材料,结构中没有使用螺丝或螺栓。取而代之的是在架子上精确切割的凹槽,创造了一种奇妙的融合体验,让它可以像柔软的、流动的纺织品一样展开。

SHIFT by LAYER uses no screws or bolts in its construction. Instead, intelligently machined kerfed grooves are cut into the shelf to create a mechanism that allows SHIFT to unfurl, like a soft, flowing textile.

Brut Collecitve选择富有层次的棕灰色调来布置自己的展位,让人们在造型和色彩之外,更关注产品的材料和质感。其中大理石和充气金属制成的桌子、用废弃树皮制成的软木椅子凸显了Brut对材料的敏感。

Brut Collectiv uses different grey and brown to design their exhibition. People will  focus on the materials and texture instead of colors and shapes. The table made from marble and blown matel, the sofa made from wasted tree bark cork, it show s the sensitivity of Brut in material.

充气金属这一技术重新定义了这种材料可以做什么的,充满空气的金属,像一个轻盈的气球,也有人说想柔软的枕头。金属的沉重与充气物品的轻盈相融合,一种共生的有机关系建立了起来,使得雕塑的结构元素更加突出。金属的反光表面也会让人质疑它的材质,形成一种具备延伸性的幽默效果。

This technology redefines one’s ideas about what might be expected from this harsh material, with pieces infused with such an airy quality that one could imagine they might just lift off like mylar balloons. Juxtaposing metal’s characteristic weight with an anomalous lightness of being, a symbiotic and organic relationship is formed, highlighted in the structural elements of the sculptural design. The metal’s reflective surface also conspires to make one question the essential nature of the work, mirroring the surrounding environment while contributing to its malleable and fantastical sense.

日本的当红设计工作室Nendo在本次展览拥有800㎡的展览面积,这面原点马赛克墙面就是其中一件作品。远看似乎平平无奇,但走进看就会发现每一块圆点都不一样,看了下面的解释你就能明白佐藤大的心思。

The most popular dasign studio in Japan Nendo has a 800㎡ place for exhibition, this mosaic wall is included. You can find all the modules are different when you get close, even it’s seems normal for distance.

通常,瓷砖使用模具制成,以此来获得平滑的表面和统一的纹理。而Nendo的这件名为“Press Tiles”的产品则剔除了模具的限制,将黏土用按压的方式成型,来取得各不相同的肌理。

当粘土被捣碎并挤压在平面之下时,球体被按压成一个柔软的六边形,而立方体的形状则会矩形,中间有一个轻微的凸起。由于这个过程是不可预判的,每一个瓷砖都与另一个有些许不同,给他们所处的空间带来了柔和的感觉。在这个过程中,还可以在瓷砖的表面添加纹理,同时在粘土和压实的表面之间放置织物和木材等材料。

粘土混合平衡,水分水平,压力的速度和正确的形状和角度都经过了测试,以确保最佳的结果,并进行了许多试验和原型,以防止粘土在被挤压时开裂。几乎感觉材料本身就是一个确定的过程和设计师。

Ceramic tiles are ordinarily produced using molds in order to provide the clay with a smooth uniform shape and finish.
In this project, spheres and cubes shaped clusters of clay were placed in regular intervals, and then pressed under a solid surface to create flat tile forms.
When the clay is being mashed and spread under the surface, the sphere changes its shape to a soft hexagon, while the cubic shape becomes a rectangular form, with a slight bulge out from its center.  Due to the unexpected nature of this process, each tile is slightly different than the other, giving a softer feeling to the space they are placed in. With this process it is also possible to add textures on the tile’s surface at the same time it is being formed, by placing materials such as fabric and wood in between the clay and the pressing surface.
The clay mixing balance, the moisture level, the pace of pressure and the right shapes and angles were all tested to enable the best possible outcome, and many tests and prototypes were made to prevent the clay from cracking while being pressed. In the end, it almost felt as if the material itself was the one determining the process and designing the tile shapes for us.

同样的Nendo展出的作品,bouncy layers 采取了一种不同的方式来演绎柔软舒适的家具。为了突破传统观念中的舒适柔软,Nendo没有使用标准的填充材料,如聚氨酯泡沫、棉花、羽毛或弹簧,而是使用1.5毫米厚的聚碳酸酯薄片,它可以通过分层和弯曲的方式来改变形状,变得足够柔软且具备支撑力。薄片的层数可改变,软硬的也可以通过弯折程度来改变。在这种设计下,家具可以在人们接触的时候变得柔软,但不受力也很牢固。虽然普通的软质家具的金属框架是隐藏在内部的,但bouncy layers把框架暴露在外部,形成了软与硬、内与外的颠覆和重组,刷新了软性家具的定义。

These made us focus on an intrinsic value of softness, and decide to take a different approach in expressing soft, comfortable furniture. To push the boundaries of comfort, rather than using standard padding materials such as urethane foam, cotton, plumage or springs or indeed cushions, we encouraged to use 1.5mm thick polycarbonate sheets, whose softness can be changed through lamination and how it is bent. Depending on the amount of space between laminated layers softness can be altered; with decreased curvature comes increased stiffness. In this way furniture can be made that is soft at the point of human contact but strong at top board and the joint of the frame. While what is considered soft for furniture is not essentially visible we attempted to take it out and make it visually apparent, in doing so we hope to inspire a conscious perception of this in people’s minds and intelligence.

日本建筑设计大神隈研吾设计了一个“会呼吸”的巨型装置,这种装置采用了一种独一无二的特殊面料,装置本身每年可以吸收90000辆汽车排放的挥发性污染物,隈研吾称其为“柔软的建筑”,这种材料预示着建筑在未来的环保领域将会发挥着重要作用。

The famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma designed a breath installation based on an unique material, which itself could absorb the VOCs of 90,000 cars per year. Kengo takes it as a soft architecture, it shows the importance of building in environment protection in future.

ecobirdy公司展出了由100%回收的塑料制成的产品系列呢。100%用回收塑料制作产品,在制作中比使用原始塑料设计和制作产品困难很多,在保证安全和高质量方面需要很多努力。这种材料将回收的塑料按颜色区分开,并混合成现在我们能够看到的活泼多彩的新材料。

A collection made of 100% recycled plastic is not obvious. There’s much effort in guaranteeing safety and insisting on high quality. This makes it more complicated and difficult than making new design furniture from virgin plastic.  An innovative material – developed by ecoBirdy – that separates the recycled plastic by colour. This gives every product an original and unique look.

纱线建筑 The thrum architecture

这组作品探寻了纺织废弃物的再利用问题。设计师 Fransje Gimbrere 将纺织机上残余的废弃纱线收集起来重新加工,使本来散乱的纱线有了一定体积,再通过编织和固定制作成可承重的装置产品和家居产品。编制结构是它用有一种3D透视感,像是透视图上的建筑。纱线的柔软和成品的坚固,让它看起来具有轻盈的漂浮感,整个场景浪漫而有趣。

‘Thrum’ refers to thrums; warp threads left on the loom after the textile cloth has been removed. Soft fibers change into translucent 3D woven sculptures, floating in space with their fragile and elegant appearance.

Jacopo Foggini 用弯曲的亚克力线在古老的建筑长廊里打造了一个粉嫩的梦幻装置,层层叠叠的亚克力让走廊像是被泡沫或鲜花充满,观众穿梭其中体验古老与现代重叠的经验。这种方式让亚克力变得蓬松柔软,并且因为其半透明的特征,放在走廊里当阳光照射时,光影和色彩的交错让观众沉浸其中。

Jacopo Foggini uses acrylic curls built a pink fantasy installation.  Layered acrylic make corridors like is filled with foam or flowers. The audience experience the ancient and modern when they go through it. In this way, the acrylic is fleecy and soft, and because of its translucent features, when it is placed in the corridor , the sunlight shining, and the light and shade are interlaced to allow the audience to immerse themselves in it.

This modern version of the Roman empire looks like hand-made sculptures, actually a 3D printed ceramic. Bright and rich colors, exquisite detailed structure, and ceramic texture, this appearance gives the illusion of weight and workmanship. It also shows that 3D printing technology can be used for certain materials.

 

虽然我们不能说遍米兰国际家具展的每一种新材料,但上面的产品足以说明现在的设计发展方向,环保可持续、数化制造技术、材料的跨界应用是前沿设计师共同探索的方向。我们不再局限于陈旧的生活体验,转而去突破一切局限,设计、艺术、科技的界限也越来越模糊。
